What makes Peak different?

1. Quality of Life — There is nothing at Peak more sacred than the quality of life of our engineers. We know engineers are people and not machines, and we recognize that life sometimes gets in the way of work. When engineers put in huge efforts, they are rewarded with comp time to relax, mellow out, and recharge their network mojo (Peak has also been known to pay for vacations to boot). During family emergencies, Peak's team (we call it a family) pulls together and covers the engineer so they can focus on what matters most in life: family.

2. Who's got your back? — Get the feeling that your company sees you as a cog and not a person? Peak puts the happiness of our employees before our customers because we know that happy employees are the bedrock for success. Peak management stands by the decisions of our engineers and supports them through thick and thin so unrealistic customer requests and timeline demands are not put on engineers as their problem to solve.

3. No Politics — Peak works outside the red tape, bureaucracy and politics that bog down many engineers' ability to execute; Peak spends more time doing what engineers love and what we do best: actual networking. We achieve results for our clients!

4. Work however works best for you — Peak believes strongly that engineers are creative individuals who perform best when they are allowed to manage themselves and work in an environment to their liking. About the only rules Peak has are to record hours accurately and fairly and to log all ssh output for post mortems. Beyond that, there are no rules on how you work. Do you like to work late at night or early in the AM, in the dark or with every light on, at home, a coffee shop, or in a corporate environment, in total silence or with the radio blaring? Great! Create the working environment that suits your personality.

5. Be rewarded for your efforts — Peak rewards each employee individually for their hard work. Peak was founded with the philosophy that bonuses should not be at the end of the year where they usually only take count for what was done since Thanksgiving, ignoring all of the hard work for the previous 11 months, or have high performing individual contributors miss out on a bonus because of a team or company's poor performance. Peak's timely bonuses are tied to each engineer's individual hours billed each month. The bottom line is you are paid more the harder you work.

6. Peak is not consulting, it's outsourcing — Peak does not follow the feast-or-famine model of many consulting companies. Peak engages clients for a minimum twelve-month retainer so when we dedicate engineers to local customer, we become part of the team and develop a relationship with our clients.

7. Unmatched co-worker talent — Peak's team of world-class engineers have run some of the largest websites and backbones on the planet. Peak operates as a collaborative team of skilled engineers sharing knowledge, experience, and design ideas to help each other learn new skills and grow. There are no fiefdoms of knowledge at Peak. If you like to teach or learn, Peak is the place for you.

8. Remember what it felt like to take pride in your work? — Peak takes pride in our work. We are extremely proud that Peak's customers entrust their company's success to our engineers and account managers who oversee all aspects of their network from architecture to routing policy to vendor selection and pricing negotiation. Also, by setting expectations early with customers on the time a project takes to do right, Peak has the luxury of being able to finish a job 100%, all the way through documentation, without being pulled away before the job is done on to another project.

9. Work on a scale not possible with any single employer — Peak is all about technology and offers a unique opportunity to work with the latest technologies and large-scale backbones, far beyond what even the largest single network could provide. Our dozens of customers run the spectrum of business plans and network requirements to give Peak's engineers the opportunity to design in environments that are anything but cookie cutter.

10. Don't pigeonhole your career — At Peak, engineers are encouraged to work on any project, technology, or design that they're interested in. As long as your customers' needs are being met, you will never be told you can't work on whatever you want.

11. Very clear goals — Tired of not knowing what direction your company or department is going in? Sick of not having a clear definition of what is expected of you? At Peak, we have a very clear motto as everything is scored on a binary scale. If the customer is happy and your hours are being met, we're happy. That's it!

Oh, there is one more thing: At Peak, we believe strongly in over-communicating. Knowing that bad news doesn't get better with age, we push hard to tell customers good news fast and bad news faster so they have every opportunity to react.

12. We love what we do — At Peak we love the challenge every day brings. When was the last time you woke up looking forward to what your day would bring? We spend most of our lives working, why don't you love what you do again?
